Over the Moon cheese is truly delicious! We stopped there recently on our way to Tauranga to buy some cheese as gift. They had 6 different cheeses out to taste - giving us a generous slice of each to try. Such a good reminder to buy local cheese, rather than imported.
Drawer of opportunity! I sometimes adopt likely jars from local recycling bins. On our community facebook page, offers of a box of jars are quickly given a home..
Trinny Woodall and Davina McCall have a lot to say about drawers and women of our generation … jars are a hitherto uncanvassed topic but for who knows how long?
Today I made the scone recipe in a recent post, complete with sugar and egg. These ingredients aren’t in the Stephanie Alexander version that’s been my go-to, as I explained. The other ingredients are broadly the same, except that Jenny has more baking powder as well. Stephanie’s is made with self-raising flour, which means approximately one teaspoon of bp to a cup of flour. In addition, a further teaspoon per cup - so effectively two teaspoons bp per cup of flour rather than Jenny’s 3 teaspoons per cup of flour (I think one tbsp = 3 teaspoons). The other ingredients were more or less the same, except that Stephanie says buttermilk rather than yoghurt, but I’ve always played around with that because I rarely have buttermilk in the fridge these days. Anyhoo the extra ingredients in Jenny’s (extra baking powder, the egg and the sugar) didn’t enhance the eating pleasure as far as I could discern. I don’t think I was biased in any direction here. I’m always open to improvement. I hasten to add that the Jenny version was also very nice - just not more nice…xc

I have a place like that too, periodically I clear it out too. How many empty yoghurt pots does one really need? The cauliflower sounds delicious.
If I could answer that question I could solve the mysteries of the universe!

I wish I could add a photo to show you my jar collection in solidarity. I love the ones with good shapes!
Maybe we should have a swap session… though that is probably not going to shrink our respective collections any!
I don't have a vox subscription so I haven't read the full article, but I saw this and instantly thought of your essay. :) https://www.vox.com/life/495249/stockpiling-recyclable-reusable-jars?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email
My drawers would appall you, Lucy. (Both kinds, when I think about it)

Thanks Carrie! Next time I make scones I’ll try Stephanie’s recipe.
